Understanding Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

A fat transfer is an appealing approach for breast enhancement in Austin. It increases the size and shape of the breasts using a woman’s own fat. The fat for the procedure is collected via liposuction from another area of the body. Not only does this sculpt a larger chest, it has the added benefit of smoothing a woman’s tummy, hips, thighs, and more.

Personalized care you can trust

We want every patient to leave our Austin office looking and feeling their best. As such, we employ a unique, holistic approach to plastic surgery – taking the entire person into account when planning their procedure. Before your fat transfer breast augmentation, we will assess your body type, medical history, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals to ensure that our surgical approach and the projected results are completely aligned with your individual needs and expectations.

What are the advantages of fat transfer breast augmentation?

  • No implant required
  • Virtually imperceptible incisions
  • Breasts retain a natural look and feel
  • Patients tend to be highly satisfied with the results
  • Safe procedure with a low risk of complications

Am I a candidate?

Our plastic surgeons confirm candidacy during a private consultation at our Austin office. However, fat transfer breast augmentation tends to be an ideal procedure for patients who:

  • Want to enlarge their breasts by one cup size
  • Possess enough excess fat elsewhere on the body for the transfer
  • Are in good physical health, and are not pregnant or breastfeeding

Scars + Incisions

The incisions required during a fat transfer breast augmentation are virtually invisible. The only cuts required are where we insert the cannula for liposuction and where we inject the fat tissue into the breasts. However, these spots are so tiny, they don’t result in significant scarring.

Investment

The cost of your procedure will be determined after the consultation. The investment required will depend on a number of factors, including the technical approach used to collect and transfer the fat cells, and the complexity of the procedure.

The procedure:

What to expect

The fat transfer breast augmentation is a two-part procedure. The first involves performing liposuction anywhere on your body where excess fat is present. This could be your arms, thighs, buttocks, tummy, and more.

Once we have collected a sufficient amount of fat, we will cleanse and purify the cells before injecting them into your breasts. These injections will be performed at varying depths and locations to artfully sculpt a fuller and shapelier chest. Over time, these injected fat cells will establish a new blood supply, which should preserve the results over time.

Your fat transfer breast augmentation results

Although a fat transfer breast augmentation can be the ideal solution for many women, there is a limit to what it can accomplish. While breast implants can boost your chest by several cup sizes, you can expect an enhancement of about one cup size via fat transfer.

In addition, the added fat may provide a light lift, but if you have significant drooping, it cannot fully address that issue. During your consultation, one of our plastic surgeons will help you visualize your expected results and determine if this approach is an optimal fit for your goals.

What will my recovery be like post-surgery?

After surgery, our surgeons will bandage the area and transfer you to a comfortable recovery room where our team will monitor you for any complications. Afterward, a friend or family member can drive you home so you can complete your recovery privately.

You can expect a less intensive healing process with a fat transfer when compared to a breast augmentation with implants. The initial recovery time typically lasts from three to seven days, with most of our patients returning to work within two weeks.

Making the choice:

Breast implants or fat transfer?

To choose between implants and a fat transfer breast augmentation, you’ll need to evaluate your unique body and aesthetic goals. If you want subtle volume and a natural enhancement, a fat transfer may be ideal. For a dramatic transformation that you can customize with a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, breast implants may be more in line with your vision.

Both procedures are safe and FDA-approved. However, because a fat transfer uses your body’s own tissue for the augmentation, there is no risk of your body rejecting the material.
