Expert Breast Explant Surgery in Austin

Breast implant removal can be done for a number of reasons – including complications, breast cancer, and fresh personal goals. If you choose to reverse your breast augmentation, our Austin surgeons can safely remove your implants, reshape your natural tissue, and restore a beautiful figure.

What Is Breast Explant Surgery?

Breast explant surgery refers to the removal of breast implants, with or without removal of the surrounding scar tissue capsule. Many women in Austin seek breast explant procedures due to implant deflation, rupture, capsular contracture, breast implant illness concerns, or evolving aesthetic preferences.

Breast implant explant surgery in Austin may include:

  • Implant removal alone
  • Total capsulectomy
  • En bloc capsulectomy
  • Implant removal with a breast lift

Your surgeon will determine the safest and most appropriate technique based on your implant type, symptoms, and desired outcome.

Austin Face & Body:

A trusted name in breast implant removal

Removing breast implants is a nuanced procedure that blends medicine and artistry. There are so many different reasons for removing your implants – from purely aesthetic motivations to health reasons – and there are just as many technical approaches as well. At Austin Face & Body, we will work with you to determine the safest route of removal, based on your unique needs.

Why Women Seek Breast Implant Removal in Austin

Our board-certified plastic surgeons perform breast implant removal in Austin for a variety of medical and personal reasons.

  • A rupture. If an MRI revealed a rupture of a silicone breast implant, you’ll need to have it removed as soon as possible.
  • Complications. If you’re experiencing capsular contracture (when hardened scar tissue forms around the implant), implant migration, or rippling skin around the implant, they should be removed.
  • Breast cancer. Women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer must have their implants removed, as their presence can interfere with treatment.
  • New aesthetic goals. If your implants are too large for your lifestyle, or you simply want to restore your smaller, natural breasts, implant removal may be the right approach. In these cases, our surgeons may recommend a simultaneous lift as well to address any sagging skin after the removal.

Am I a candidate?

We will confirm candidacy during your private consultation at our Austin office. However, in general, you may be a good candidate for breast implant removal if you:

  • Are non-smoker and in good physical health
  • Want to restore your smaller, more natural breasts
  • Are experiencing breast implant discomfort, pain, or heaviness
  • Have been diagnosed with breast cancer, capsular contracture, a leak, or a rupture

Planning your transformation

Your consultation at our Austin office is where we will plan your custom surgery. During this meeting, we will create a personalized approach based on the type of implants you have, any complications that are present, and your desired outcome. You will leave knowing exactly what to expect from your breast implant removal.

What to expect

The specific steps involved in your breast implant removal will depend on your unique needs and the type of implant you have. In general, the surgery is done under general anesthesia and can take anywhere from one to two hours. To begin, we will re-open the original incision. From there, you have a number of options:

  • Implant removal. This is the most straightforward approach, during which we will remove the implant and any scar tissue.
  • Capsulectomy. During a standard capsulectomy, we will remove the implant and the capsule that surrounds it. It’s a two-part technique. First, we will cut into the capsule to remove the implant. Then, we will remove the remaining capsule.
  • En bloc capsulectomy. During this surgery, we will remove the capsule without cutting into it, thus removing the implant and the capsule at the same time.

What is en bloc capsulectomy?

In French, en bloc means “all together.” En bloc capsulectomy involves removing the breast implant along with the scar tissue capsule at the same time, without first opening the capsule. This ensures that nothing inside the capsule can leak out into the surrounding tissue. Our plastic surgeons in Austin typically recommend this approach when a woman has been diagnosed with an implant rupture or capsular contracture.

Alternatively, a standard capsulectomy involves removing the breast implant and capsule using a different technique. With this approach, a plastic surgeon will first create an incision in the capsule and remove the implant from the scar tissue. Once the implant is out of the body, they will remove the capsule. This might be necessary if any portion of the capsule has fused to the body and must be left in place to ensure the patient’s safety.

Recovery

After breast implant removal, you can expect some bruising, swelling, and discomfort for a few weeks. You will need to stay home from work for several days while you complete the healing process, and your final results will be apparent in a few months.

Investment

The cost of your procedure will be determined after the consultation. Your investment will depend primarily upon the complexity of the procedure, the technical approach used to remove the implants, and whether you choose to undergo a simultaneous breast lift

    Breast Implant Removal FAQs

What is the difference between breast implant removal and breast explant surgery?

Breast implant removal refers to taking out the implants themselves. Breast explant surgery typically includes removal of both the implant and the surrounding capsule of scar tissue. During your consultation in Austin, your surgeon will determine whether a standard capsulectomy or an en bloc capsulectomy is the safest and most appropriate approach.

How do I know if I have breast implant deflation?

Saline implant deflation often causes a noticeable decrease in breast size within days or weeks. Silicone implant rupture may not cause visible changes and often requires MRI confirmation. If you suspect breast implant deflation in Austin, schedule a prompt evaluation to prevent further complications.

How much does breast implant removal cost in Austin?

The cost of breast implant removal in Austin depends on the complexity of the procedure, whether a capsulectomy is required, and whether you choose to combine surgery with a breast lift. A personalized treatment plan and quote will be provided during your private consultation.

Can I get a breast lift after implant removal?

Yes. Many women choose to combine breast implant explant surgery with a breast lift to improve contour and firmness after the implants are removed. Your surgeon will assess your skin elasticity and tissue quality to determine whether a lift is recommended.

Do I need an en bloc capsulectomy for breast explant surgery?

Not every patient requires an en bloc capsulectomy. This technique removes the implant and capsule together without opening the capsule and is often recommended in cases of rupture or severe capsular contracture. Your Austin plastic surgeon will determine whether this approach is medically necessary based on your implant condition and symptoms.

What happens to my breasts after implant removal?

After breast implant removal, your breasts may appear smaller, softer, or slightly deflated depending on your skin elasticity and how long the implants were in place. Some patients choose to undergo a breast lift or fat grafting to improve contour and restore natural fullness.

How long is recovery after breast implant removal in Austin?

Recovery after breast implant removal typically involves swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort for a few weeks. Most patients return to light activities within several days and resume normal routines within a few weeks. Your surgeon will provide detailed post-operative instructions tailored to your procedure.
